Mineira de
Betim, 37 anos, Terezinha é detentora dos títulos mundiais de todas as
categorias em que compete: 100 m, 200 m e 400 m rasos. A velocista soma mais de
350 medalhas em seu currículo e suas principais conquistas são: 3 medalhas de
ouro (Londres e Pequim), 1 medalha de prata (Pequim) e 2 medalhas de bronze
(Pequim e Atenas), em Olimpíadas; hepta-Campeã Mundial, somando os 100, 200 e
400 m; e vencedora de todas as edições do Campeonato Parapan-Americano, desde
2007. Terezinha nasceu com retinose pigmentar, doença que impede o
desenvolvimento das células de luminosidade da visão. Com o tempo, ainda foi
perdendo esses 5% iniciais de visão em relação a uma pessoa comum. De origem
simples, parte de uma família de doze irmãos, apesar das dificuldades e
limitações não se conformou: seguiu atrás da realização de seu sonho de ser a
melhor do mundo no que fizesse. Teve essa oportunidade através do atletismo. E
hoje, com sua vida totalmente transformada pelo esporte, tornou-se a velocista
cega mais rápida do mundo, catalogada no livro dos recordes Guinness Book.
Terezinha, 37, a native of the city of Betim in
the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, holds the world records for all the events
in which she competes: the 100 m, 200 m and 400 m sprints. The sprinter has
accumulated over 350 medals in her career, her main accomplishments being: 3
gold medals (London and Beijing), 1 silver medal (Beijing), and 2 bronze medals
(Beijing and Athens), in Olympics; seven-time World Champion, adding the 100, 200 and 400 m; and champion of all the Parapan American Games, since
2007. Terezinha was born with retinitis pigmentosa, an illness which inhibits
the development of photoreceptor cells. Over time, she lost the 5% normal
vision she was born with. Despite being from a poor family, with eleven
brothers and sisters, she refused to accept her limitations and difficulties,
pursuing her dream to be the best at what she did. And it was athletics which
provided this opportunity. Today, with her life completely transformed by the
sport, she has become the fastest blind athlete in the world, as indicated in The Guinness Book of Records.

gingando suas embaixadinhas memoráveis pelo gramado, no intervalo ou antes do
jogo começar: a galera vibra unânime e até esquece sua antológica rivalidade. Aos
88 anos, Jankel Schor, o ‘Rei das Embaixadinhas’, faz lembrar o antigo clima
amistoso que frequentava todos os clubes do Rio de Janeiro, sem distinção.
Provando que futebol não tem idade, este carioca adotivo tem na bola sua
inspiração. Vindo da
Rússia aos cinco anos de idade com a família, se encantou pelo nosso povo, e o
futebol encontrou um espaço considerável em sua vida. Começou fazendo sucesso
na roda de amigos com seus mil e um malabarismos; depois, suas embaixadinhas
ganharam os gramados de São Januário até chegar ao grandioso Estádio do Maracanã.
Figura conhecida e cativa por todos que gostam de futebol, recebe neste FIFE uma justíssima homenagem pelo autêntico carioca que se tornou, ao
adotar o Brasil e a bola como duas de suas grandes paixões.
At any given ‘Fla Flu’ – the classic Flamengo vs. Fluminense match –
even those that inspire nothing but disappointment among fans, he shows up
juggling the ball in his memorable keepie uppies across the lawn, during
half-time or before the game begins: the crowd roars in unison, even forgetting
their everlasting rivalry. At 88, Jankel Schor, the ‘King of the Keepie Uppies’,
reminds us of the long-ago friendly atmosphere when all football clubs in Rio
de Janeiro were patronized, without distinction. Proving that football is
ageless, this adopted son of Rio de Janeiro has the ball as his inspiration.
Arriving from Russia at the age of five with his family, he became enchanted
with the people of this city, and football took over considerable space in his
life. His fame
began among his friends with his countless juggles; later, his freestyle
football conquered the pitch of Vasco da Gama’s São Januário stadium, until he
made it to the monumental Maracanã stadium. A well-known and perennial
character among football-lovers, he will be deservedly honored in this FIFE as
the authentic “Carioca”, or Rio de Janeiro native, he has become, by embracing
Brazil and the ball as his two greatest passions.

Inscrita pela Unesco, em Paris, na seleta lista de atletas que inclui,
entre outros, Pelé, Sergey Bubka e Michael Schumacher, Jackie Silva torna
impossível fazer um histórico do vôlei de praia sem sua marcante presença. A
atuação de Jacqueline na areia se confunde com a evolução da própria
modalidade. Carioca nascida em 1962, começou a jogar vôlei em quadras aos dez
anos de idade. Logo conquistou diversos títulos e, na Olimpíada de Los Angeles,
foi considerada a melhor levantadora. Venceu vários prêmios pela WPVA, primeira
Associação Feminina de Vôlei de Praia dos Estados Unidos, que ajudou a fundar,
sendo a primeira colocada no ranking americano, em 1990. Sua parceria com
Sandra obteve a marca dos doze primeiros lugares no Circuito do Banco do Brasil,
sagrando-se campeã brasileira, feito jamais alcançado por qualquer outra dupla.
Essa parceria rendeu o ouro Olímpico em 1996, na primeira participação oficial
do
esporte em uma Olimpíada. No mesmo ano, Jackie foi primeiro lugar no
ranking mundial e única atleta feminina a gravar um depoimento histórico para o
Museu da Imagem e do Som, no Rio. Eleita pela Federação Internacional de
Voleibol a melhor atleta da última década do século XX, criou o Jackie Clube de
Vôlei que, já em 2002, contava com mais de 25 unidades, em parceria com o
Governo do Estado do Rio de Janeiro. Em 2009 recebeu o prêmio mundial Atleta pelo Esporte – um reconhecimento da Unesco a atletas que
promovem a educação e as atividades esportivas como forma de construir um
futuro melhor para os jovens.
Inducted by Unesco in Paris into a select list of athletes that
includes, among others, Pelé, Sergey Bubka, and Michael Schumacher, Jackie
Silva makes it impossible to recount the history of beach volleyball without
including her remarkable character. Jacqueline’s activities in the sand intermingle with the evolution of the sport itself. Born in Rio de
Janeiro in 1962, she began playing volleyball in the courts at the age of ten.
She soon won several titles and, in the Los Angeles Olympics, was named the
best setter of the Games. She won several awards from the WPVA, the first
Women’s Beach Volleyball Association in the US, which she helped organize,
being the first ranked player in the US in 1990. Her partnership with Sandra
reached the mark of twelve first places in the Brazilian Banco do Brasil
Circuit, winning the Brazilian championship, a feat as yet unrepeated by any
other duo. This team was also the 1996 Olympic gold medalist, in the sport’s
first official participation in the Games. That same year, Jackie placed first
in the world rank and was the only woman athlete to record her testimony for
the Image and Sound Museum, in Rio de Janeiro. Chosen by the International
Federation of Volleyball as the best athlete of the last decade of the 20th
century, she established the Jackie Volleyball Club, which in 2002 already
included over 25 units, in a partnership with the Rio de Janeiro State
Government. In 2009, she was designated a Champion
for Sport – a Unesco acknowledgement for athletes who promote education and
sports activities as a method to build a better future
for our youth.
